A couple of weeks ago we looked at how your decision to join #TeamNoSleep may be creating an imbalance internally that could ultimately be affecting your greatness. But, I know as well as you that sometimes you have to see it to believe it - so, this go around, we are going to tackle exactly how your lack of sleep may be affecting your outside appearance.

Did You Know?

  • Lack of sleep can really mess with your skin’s balance which can and will cause dehydrated complexion and a case of the breakouts. I do not know anyone that is ok with walking around looking like a fresh slice of pepperoni pizza - just saying!  The moisture level in your skin is super important because it will drastically lower your pH levels which can take the youthful looking skin you desire to ”eh” real quick.  You know where I am going with this.

Instead, focusing on sleep as an essential part of your beauty regimen will make all of the difference. Also, it’ll help to find the right skin care products that help to keep your skin at it’s prime acidic levels even on those rare nights when you can’t quite get the sleep you deserve. I personally like Neutrogena everything.   It works wonders on my skin.

  • Dark circles can be genetic. Believe me, I am a testimony to that! But, genetics is not the case for most people and a little bit of sleep can go a long way! In fact, puffy eyes are normally one of the first signs of lack of sleep. So, get your cucumber slices, elevate your head with an extra pillow or two at night, stay hydrated (at all COSTS!!!) and most importantly, GET MORE SLEEP.

  • How much sleep do you really need? That’s the million dollar question, folks. Most experts recommend 7-8 hours a day.  Another good rule of thumb is to increase your sleep time by 15-minutes each night until you wake feeling refreshed and well-rested. That usually will help you determine how much sleep YOUR body needs because we all know there isn’t a one size fits all approach to pretty much ANYTHING, in my opinion.

Another thing that is worth a try is coming up with YOUR perfect sleep regimen. Something you can do that can make those precious hours of slumber simply ideal. My regimen includes a body pillow, diffuser filled with lavender and eucalyptus, and a cool mist humidifier. Yes, I take my sleep seriously!
