Self-Defense and Sake with Chamberlain Studios
This past Saturday I had the amazing opportunity to take a self defense class with my Dallas Fitness Ambassador crew and it was hands down one of my top three best fitness experiences in Dallas! Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense is a hidden gem. Based off of the title alone, one would assume that the building was a one-stop-shop for self defense training but, the amazing staff (and the owner, Nick Chamberlain) offer so much more!
The afternoon started off with basic defensive moves. How to hold our hands, how to stand and, most importantly, tips on how to lessen our chances of having to use any of this in the future. I never realized how important it is to be prepared, to pay attention to how I enter a parking garage, and to how I turn corners. While most of this seems like common sense, when you’ve lived a somewhat “sheltered” life, these choices that will ultimately prevent you from encountering danger are pretty eye opening.
Anyway, back to the workout! I just knew this was going to be a breeze for all of the ladies in attendance. We are all fitness enthusiasts and in great physical shape so, I thought it would be a cakewalk. I was definitely wrong. The class was a WORKOUT and I actually woke up Monday morning feeling a bit sore from using muscles that I wasn’t used to using in my traditional workouts. So, I can only imagine if I wasn’t “in shape” how hard it would be to fend off an attacker. I guess being healthy can save your life if you’re in a precarious situation - have you ever thought about it that way?

After an amazing class, Nick shared experiences a few of his clients encountered before they finally decided to take a class. Believe me, they weren’t pretty and made me realize even more how important it is to be proactive as opposed to reactive. And guess what, guys?! I broke a board in half! Straight karate kid style - it was epic! We ended the evening with sushi, some amazing custom fortune cookies from CRUNCH, and an intense sake lesson (yea...like, the alcohol) courtesy of Mr. Chamberlain. This sake tasting was that was comparable to a wine tasting straight out of Napa Valley! I loved every minute of it! You can definitely tell that the guests at Chamberlain Studios are treated like family.

For those of you who are still on the self-defence tight rope, Chamberlain Studios is so much more than self-defense. They offer both adult and children’s karate classes, adult fitness classes, workshops, and even serve as a venue for birthday parties! Plus, very soon they will be offering an adult fitness class that will also include a bit of beer kegs after your afternoon sweat session. I’m keeping my ear to the ground so I can definitely share that event with you guys!
In the meantime, Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense is offering a FREE Women’s Self Defense Seminar that will be open to the public this Saturday, March 5th, from 10-12 at their Lakewood dojo. There will be complimentary childcare for ages 4 and up, and even the kids will be able to participate in martial arts activities and art projects courtesy of the Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts. All you have to do is RSVP -- simple as that. Participants will be able to break a board for a buck and proceeds will benefit one of our favorite causes, the Genesis Women’s Shelter. I strongly encourage you to attend.
Last, but not least - it’s giveaway time! Thanks to Chamberlain Studios we have a GIVEAWAY for one lucky reader! Enter below for your chance to win a FREE Kids Karate Party. Yup. Free-99. This class, valued at $250, is something you’ll want to take advantage of! The winner will be contacted via email March 10th. So what do you have to do?
