Mom Life: Bath Time = Bonding
It would be dishonest to say that being a working mom is even remotely easy. In fact, I can think of a few adjectives to describe it and ‘easy’ doesn’t even make the list. Mornings are normally rushed due to the extra 15 minutes of cuddles that I always let Peyton con me into. This ultimately results in a dance party (we listen to “Sunny” by Bobby Hebb every morning - it’s just our thing) and then the rest is a massive Peyton blur ending with her at school and me at work for the next 8 or 9 hours.
The hardest part, for me personally, is coping with the fact that I am leaving my child to be educated by someone not named Mommy while I go and devote my day to teaching the next generation of voters about their government. In addition, my little mini is a pro at this sleep training thing and usually is ready to hit the sack around 7:30pm, at the latest. A few weeks ago, it was about that time and Peyton starting saying “bed” and pointing to her room. So, on top of being apart from her all day, she’s ready to conk out right when we get some QT. Like, what all does a 1-year-old do at school all day?!
I say all of that to stress this point: time is extremely limited during the week and creating your bonding time is essential. So, I have made sure that bath time has become our ritual. We go all out for the bath using our favorite eucalyptus and tea tree bubbles, pulling out all of the toys, singing, splashing, and ensuring that Peyton isn’t done until all of her fingers and toes are shriveled like prunes! It is definitely one of my favorite parts of the day! Our bath parties are legendary and I owe it all to the amazing products below.
Shea Moisture Baby:
This head-to-toe wash smells amazing and is perfect for a little aromatherapy. Yup! I am an oil momma. I love eucalyptus because it acts as an expectorant and helps cleanse your body of toxins and harmful microorganisms that can make you feel icky.
Babies and Up Bubble Bath-Eucalyptus and Mint:
Eucalyptus again AND with the added bonus of mint! Did you guys know that the smell of mint is amazing for treating nausea?! This product is our fave because it is a certified fair trade product and we are all about supporting better trading conditions in developing countries and promoting sustainability whenever we can.
Nuby Bath Squirters:
These have been really helpful in making bathtime educational as well. Peyton has been learning how to identify certain animals thanks to these squirters. Plus, since she absolutely hates getting water in her face, hair and ears, using these as a game has made rinsing her off more manageable.
Nuby Little Submarine:
This really challenges her motor skills! It took us about a week to get her familiar with the pulling of the string but after that, the rest was history. Watching this sub move around the tub has really increased our bath time giggles.
Nuby Tub Tugboats:
So, we’ve had these for about a month and just discovered that they squirt too! Well, really Peyton discovered this when she squirted me in the eye! She did say “sorry” so, I couldn’t stay mad for long! Unlike some of the other bath toys we have tried, these actually float above the water and really allow her to use her imagination!
