Run to Escape: Mission Mt Olympus
I received entry into the Run to Escape: Mission Mt. Olympus as a part of being a BibRave Pro. Check out BibRave.com to read and write race reviews.
Virtually racing is not a new option; it was always offered with some races when participants could not run the live event. We all know it wasn't the most popular option because runners love the community, cheers, and pavement parties with their run crews. A year has passed since we entered the pandemic, and virtual racing became the new norm. Since the pandemic, I have completed many virtual races with Kobe (my rottweiler), solo, and on the treadmill (who would have ever thought about racing on the treadmill).
Not that virtual racing is terrible, but after a year, it's beginning to become dull and less motivating. But what can you do? I decided to embark on an epic adventure with Run to Escape. Yes, it's still a virtual race, but there is a twist, a new challenge, and a mission.
The twist involves solving puzzles while running. During the 5k, 4-miler, 5-miler, and 10k, you receive clues and codes to help you solve the puzzle (mystery) that releases the code for the next run. Think of it as an escape room experience on the pavement.
The challenge is solving the puzzle. Usually, while running, I'm listening to an audible book, jamming out to my favorite playlist, or listening to some gospel music. I'm still able to listen to those things, but I'm also listening for the chime to let me know one of the gods is about to send me a clue. Don't worry if you miss the hint after the run is complete; Hermes will send you an email with the recorded clues.
The mission is to help Atalanta, the legendary Goddess of Running. Atalanta is on a quest to earn a spot with Hermes, Dionysus, Aphrodite, Apollo, Hades, Athena, and Zeus.
