Running with the Gods

For the past year, I have spent most of my time running training miles and virtual races with my fur grandboy, Kobe. For the past month, Korei (my granddaughter), Kobe, and I have been running with the Greek Gods on a mission to assist Atalanta, the legendary Goddess of Running, on her quest to join the major gods and goddesses of the Greek Pantheon.

How exactly did I run with the Gods to help Atalanta? I join the Run to Escape: Mission Mt. Olympus adventure.They created six unique and separate virtual runs; seven mind-bending puzzles with on-the-run audio clues.

The six unique runs consist of different mileage for each run. The gods would demand that you run a 5k, a 4-miler, a 5-miler, and 10k to conclude the adventure. Although the runs are untimed, there was accountability through the Runkeeper app. Each run was hosted by a different god, which I found fascinating because their personalities were all different, making each run unique. The various gods would provide you with a background story about themselves during the run and throw in some clues to help you solve the puzzle (mystery) that releases the code for the next run.

If you are like me, sometimes you can get so caught up in your music, audible book, or thoughts that you might miss the clue. RunKeeper solved this problem by starting each clue with a harp playing which prompted me to listen. There were times when I couldn't focus or press the replay button (because it doesn't exist), but after the race, Hermes sent me an email with the recorded clues. He would also send the answer. I know you're wondering if I figured out every puzzle or if I used the answer hint; well, that is a secret between Hermes and me.

Although there is no physical swag for this adventure, there is a victory party. After completing all the challenges, Zeus will invite you to the party. Each of the gods will give you a unique party favor such as playlists, recipes, and brand discounts during the party.
