Plants. The Other Protein

As a plant-based runner, ``How do I get my protein if I don't eat chicken and just an occasional egg?” is the question often asked. The obvious answer is protein shakes, but that's not my reality nor my only source of protein.

I must confess that my eating lifestyle has its challenges, but I try to eat to win. Being mindful that the food I eat is used to fuel my performance and nourish my entire body.

So, to answer the question how do I get my protein?

Legumes

Legumes contain nitrogen which is the necessary ingredients in protein. My choices are chickpeas; peas
( black-eyed and cream) and beans (pinto and black).

Tofu

I will admit that tofu is an acquired taste due to its texture, but it's a great source of protein, and it also fills the void for eggs.

Seeds

Pumpkin; chia; nuts and hemp seeds. Although I eat a variety of nuts, I also include hemp seeds in my salads, soups, and smoothies.

The answer to the question was straightforward once we changed our mindsets and remembered that plants are protein packed, which supports my statement that Plants are the other protein.

Are you a plant based athelete? If, so how do get your protein?
