Out Of My Element: Breaking Bad Habits

Anything that prevents you from being useful is a bad habit.

What was something that it took you a really long time to learn? For me, it would hands down be parallel parking. In the beginning, parallel parking was not my strong point at all, and I had to devote a lot of mental energy to it. But after I got comfortable with parallel parking, it became much more natural. The bottom line is that we all have the mental strength to make positive impacts in our lives and the way we see things, but sometimes we just lack the tools. That's where I come in.

You leave old habits behind by starting out with the thought, ‘I release the need for this in my life.

Tips on Habit Change

Just One Thing

Creating new habits that will last means going slow. Often we try to overhaul our lives by turning them upside down and thinking we will change everything at once! Out with the old, in with the new. Instead we need to crowd out the habits that don’t serve us by slowly adding in new ones that will empower us! So choose JUST ONE THING start there, and go slow. Learning new things takes time. Then build by adding in the next ONE THING, and before you know it you have a series of new, healthy habits that help you thrive!

Progress IS Perfection

Stop with the All or Nothing! If we aim for perfect then when we make a mistake or miss a step we throw in the towel thinking we have to start again. Perfection is an unattainable goal. Instead aim for PROGRESS.

If you get one day right this week and two days right next week then you are progressing...and that is what perfection looks like, forward movement.

Stay In Your Own Lane

Energy is your most valuable commodity. When you look around to see what others are doing, saying or thinking you give away your energy! You need that energy to thrive! Protect your energy by staying focused on you, your needs and the things that bring you joy. You do you!
